Karni’s promotion marks the latest move in a distinguished career at the Leumi Group

LONDON: Bank Leumi (UK) plc, the multi-specialist London-based subsidiary of Israel’s international bank, has welcomed Gil Karni as its new CEO.

Karni makes the move from Bucharest, where since 2016 he had headed up Bank Leumi Romania. From 2011 to 2015, he was CEO of the Bank’s subsidiary in Luxembourg. Karni led the Israeli desk and real estate divisions of Bank Leumi Romania between 2009 and 2011 and from 2008 to 2009 he was among the founding members of Leumi’s Bulgarian branch. Prior to that, Karni held various managerial posts for the Bank in Israel, where his Leumi career began in 1994.

“I’m keen to get started in London,” says Karni. “Working alongside experts in everything from international trade, property and hi-tech to commodities, hotels and media finance, the UK Bank is an exciting posting. And, of course, London is where the Leumi story really began. I hope to be able to both do justice to the history of the Bank, and help do my part to lead it into the future.”
